The climate of Kerala is tropical – hot, humid and often wet. It is cooler in the highlands and on the coast where there can be a sea breeze. During the main monsoon (June/July) there is heavy rain. It can be wet and misty in the mountains during the second monsoon (October/early November) but at other times of the year most rain falls at night.

The high season (when the rainfall is at its lowest) generally starts in mid November and ends in April. August and September are pleasant months to visit and this is festival time in Kerala. The build up to the main monsoon (May) is the most humid month. If you are planning a holiday in order to undertake Ayurvedic treatments the monsoon period is said to be the best time for this.
